Gracious, Abundant Creator you created us for life, yet we distract ourselves with fear. The realities of our broken systems and broken relationships have created such distance between us that we often forget that we are all beloved reflections of You. Give us courage to stow our weapons so that they may not be used to add to our misery, intentionally or accidentally. Remind us of our belovedness and restore our hope in the goodness of others. Help us recognize and be moved toward Your will of love, grace, compassion, and peace. Alight in us such a love for our neighbor that we allow our own hearts to be changed. Empower us to regard the stranger most unlike us with a desire to create safety for them. In doing so, we embody and give action to your will toward life. All these things we pray in Your name. Amen.

Leader: Almighty God, Architect of Creation and Parent to all creatures, we come before you with heavy hearts. Overburdened by helplessness and forgetful of Your power to lift us up, we offer ourselves to you for healing and change.
Response: We confess that we let our fear and poor thinking convince us to reject the stranger.
Leader: We confess our need to feel stronger than our siblings in Christ.
Response: We confess our yearning to feel safe and secure can lead us to suspicion.
Leader: We confess that there is more we can do to protect not just ourselves, but all others.
Response: Lord, have mercy on us.
Leader: With Your leading, Eternal One, we commit to making a change for the blessings all may receive.
Response.: We commit to storing our weapons away from those without the health, knowledge, and respect needed to use them for good.
Leader: We commit to talking more across differences, that we may realize the blessedness of others.
Response.: We commit to leaning in to Your plan and let our plans not be swayed by uninformed fear.
Leader: We commit to educating ourselves and educating others toward peace. Lift us up, Dear Lord, that we may see the ways in which we may effect change. In all things, we rely on you. Receive our confessions; Empower our commitments; Help us love one another. In Your Most Holy and precious name we pray, Amen.
